We're excited to again promote National Indoor Bowls Week which this year will take place from the 20-27 April.
During this week, we ask that:
Every Indoor Bowls Club in New Zealand run a ''Friends and Neighbours'' Club Night.
This is a very effective way to have new people try our sport, or to entice indoor bowlers back.
We recommend that the Club puts on a supper at the end of the night.
We recommend that new players are evenly spread amongst teams for the night.
We recommend that your Club night begin 30 minutes earlier than normal, and that those 30 minutes are used to teach new players the basics of indoor bowls.
We recommend that a very relaxed attitude is taken to play during the night, e.g. if a new player delivers a wrong bias, or a very poor bowl- send it back!
We recommend placing a community notice in your local paper, and with your local radio station.
Our member Districts, Sub Centre's and Club's endeavour to run a ''Have a Go Day'' of indoor bowls during this week.
"Have a go" days are a way to showcase our sport to the wider local community.
We recommend that the open day is run in conjunction with a Sausage Sizzle outside your chosen venue- the smell alone can lure people in!
We recommend that multiple mats are down at your chosen venue- one as an ''exhibition mats'' and the others free for people to play on.
We recommend that your have a go day has a poster with your local Clubs details available to be given out.
We recommend that any attendees are offered their first three nights free at any of your local Clubs.
We recommend placing a community notice in your local paper, and with your local radio station.
You will find a number of downloadable and editable supporting brochures and posters for the above initiatives by clicking this link.
If you require assistance in editing any of them to better suit your Club or District- please let us know at [email protected]
Please let us know when you have confirmed that your Club, Sub Centre or District are participating in any of the above initiatives, as we will be advertising them on our Website and through Social Media Channels.
