The New Zealand Junior Singles is the pinnacle event for junior bowls, and this year's field will see 29 youngsters take to the mats at Onepoto Hall, North Wellington.
Poverty Bay have claimed the trophy two years in a row now and have every chance to make it a third. The small Gizzy centre will be well represented again with defending champion and North Island new cap, Nathan Trowell, back in the mix. He will be joined by his sister, Kayla, who will be competing in the event for the first time. She was recently runner up in the North Island Secondary School Singles, and both her and Nathan will be in the NZ Mixed Pairs event next month.
Hutt Valley's Jordan Keene has a fantastic junior record, with three placings in the New Zealand Junior Singles and a collection of medals in both NZ and North Island Secondary School events. He was named reserve for the North Island team this year and will no doubt give it his all to finish his junior years on a high.
Many familiar faces return to the field as strong contenders, such as Shawn Perry and Nikita Blair, and young Freddie Persico has another season under his belt, so could surprise!
Good luck to all competitors.
