Hayley Riddell and Alana Laurie from Tauranga Intermediate have taken out the Gold Medal in the Pairs at the 2014 NZCT AIMS Games Indoor Bowls. This was Hayley and Alana’s second attempt to win the title after failing to qualify in 2013. In the final, they bet Connor Christoffersen and Ben Tang also from Tauranga Intermediate after two very close sets but the girls came out on top on both occasions. All four players are in their second year of playing bowls. Hayley is a Junior Representative for the Tauranga Indoor Bowls Association and her experience at this level showed, keeping a cool head when she was down. In the semi-finals, Riddell and Laurie beat Sandro Milgate-Vassilini and Justine Gapuz from Mount Maunganui Intermediate and Christoffersen and Tang bet Mohammed Abdo and Vinny Lambly from Sommerville Intermediate. In a play off for the Bronze Medal, Milgate-Vassilini and Gapuz beat Abdo and Lambly.
