It was a case of de ja vu in the New Zealand Secondary School Singles today with Poverty Bay and Tauranga meeting each other once again in the semi-final matches, just as they had the day before.
Unlike the day before though, it was Poverty Bay who claimed both spots in the final. Dylan Foster (Gisborne Boys High School) and Kayla Trowell (Lytton High School) are not just members of the same district, but also members of the same talented family.
The two cousins have met a number of times on the mat, with varying results, but Dylan had the edge on this occasion: the gold medal a nice upgrade from his silver the year prior, and a fitting way to round out his secondary school years.
Hunter Reid (Mt Maunganui College) and Chloe Edwards (Tauranga Girls High School) earned bronze for their stellar efforts, while Sylvana Ferreira (Reporoa College) won the plate event.
Congratulations to Dylan Foster and all other competitors.
