Popular winners Ali Wilson and Liz Morrow have had a brilliant day today, securing their first National Open title in the 2021 Pairs Championship.
It has been a long time coming for Ali who attended his first nationals back in 1969, and as a pairs combination they have teamed up for well over a decade.
Ali and Liz each have success in the NZ Mixed Fours and Pairs events, as well as in the Welch Trophy representing North Taranaki, but this is the first time they have conquered a National Open Title. Talking to them both, they describe it as “unbelievable” and a “dream come true.”
In the final they defeated 2019 runners-up Gary and Graham Low. The father and son duo gave yet another tremendous effort, adding to their string of National placings over a number of years.
Married couple going the furthest Greg and Fiona Edwards won the Bob Malcolm Memorial Trophy.
Congratulations to all bowlers who featured today, but especially Ali and Liz.
