PSAILA BREAKS 21 YEAR DROUGHT

The Waikato team of Teri Blackbourn, Matthew Farquhar and Paul Psaila from the St Andrews Club scored an exciting win in the North Island Championship Triples on Monday night at the Rotorua Sportsdrome.

It was especially memorable because it broke a drought of 21 years for Psaila who last won the Triples in 2000.  He combined with these two very talented young bowlers who both won their first Island titles.

Blackbourn and Farquhar also performed well in the North Island Pairs finishing runner-up in a classic encounter when the win was snatched from them by Brendon Walton and Rex McNae in a last bowl decider.

Because of this they jointly won the Player of the Tournament and the Badgemakers Island Aggregate Cup.

The St Andrews triple defeated Simon Poppleton, Darryn Bell and Georgia Fisher from the Te Atatu Club, Auckland 10-7.

Third equal were Gheorghe Sirbu, Leslie Monk and Ashleigh Tanfield, Beerescourt Club, Waikato and Bruce Meyer, Sarah Warrington and Bradyn Popow, Takaro Star, Manawatu.
