Alex Reed, Don Harris and Debbie Reed became Triples Champions today, achieving not only a North Island title but an Upper Hutt Open title as well.
It was a special win for the family team who claimed their first Island Championship together, and dedicated it to Don’s late son, Michael.
Along the way, Alex’ team had a tight tussle with Keith Setter in the first round of post section, but controlled the quarter final against Lois Randall and semi final against Paul Smith.
They met Roger Andrew, Jason Parker and Lisa Gould in the final; the team who had defeated them during section play. A motivated Alex began the final with a screamer to score two shots, and from there the team consistently plugged away, extending their lead to 8-2 after seven ends.
This is when Roger’s team stepped it up a notch, building heads that represented the fight still left in them. A well-timed three tightened the score to 5-8 with just two ends to play.
Those final two ends kept spectators interested. Roger’s team had chances to close the gap and surge late to a victory, but Alex ultimately wrapped up the game 12-5.
Congratulations Alex, Don and Debbie on a remarkable win.
