Mixed Pairs Preview

It seems like yesterday that NZIB introduced the National Mixed Pairs event, but it has quickly established itself in becoming one of the most sought-after pairs titles.  Each year has produced a new pair of champions, and Sunday 20th September in Masterton will be no different.

Mat Black Teri Anderson will skip North Island representative Richard Caddy to make a strong team for Zone Two.  Caddy’s consistency up front has been a recipe for success in the past; the 2017 National Pairs win and Interisland Men’s Pairs medal are just two examples of that.

Zone Three has also put forward a strong combination of Ali Wilson and Bronnie Read.  They have experience in these events, having already won a National Mixed Fours title in 2015.  Add a 2016 Welch Gold Star for Ali and a 2019 Masters Pairs title for Bronnie, and you have got a tough team to beat.

South Island Ladies Fours skip Kylie Gould teams up with a rock-solid Gary Ashby at lead.  They will be fierce competitors for Zone Seven.  The young guns pairing of Kyle Waldron and Anjela Frost survived the pre-tournament favourites in Zone Five and will now be looking to go all the way.  Kyle will be well-attuned to the floor by Sunday too, as he is the only bowler to have qualified for both events.

All in all, the field has shaped up to be an extremely even one and it would be no surprise if the final results reflected this.

Good luck to all players for the weekend.
