The New Zealand Indoor Bowls team (the Mat Blacks) has completed a comeback in Ballarat to claim a win in the Trans-Tasman series for 2022.
The test was played over three days, with every country picking seven men and seven women to compete over multiple disciplines. Two points were awarded for every game won.
The New Zealand team completed an improbable clean sweep in the morning session by claiming victories in every single game played. It was an inspired performance and put New Zealand into a strong position going into the lunchbreak.
The Australian team was not to be cowed, however, and fought back in the afternoon session taking wins in women’s 8 bowl pairs, women’s triples, mixed 6 bowl pairs and mixed 8 bowl pairs.
The New Zealand men’s triples team and the New Zealand men’s 8 bowl pairs won their rubbers and secured the win for New Zealand 35 game points to 31.
More to come later.
