Winning the NZ Mixed Fours Title has capped off an outstanding year for the Tauranga combination.
Mike Phipps has shone winning two National Titles at the National Champs this year with wins in the Open Pairs and Open Triples bringing his tally of medals to 13. On top of those achievements he was named the Player of the tournament and won the coveted Robertson Cup.
Lorraine Phipps starred at the Summerset National Champs and created history when she became the first woman to win a Gold Star for five Open Titles when she was a member of the champion triples team. She was selected for the North Island team and won an Inter-Island medal in the women’s triples.
Fiona Keegan had the honour of being named Vice Captain of the successful Mat Blacks and won an Australasian Medal in the Mixed (8-Bowl) Pairs and was third equal in the Open Triples at the nationals.
Paul Smith was also named in the Mat Blacks and combined with Fiona to win the Australasian Medal in the Mixed (8-Bowl) Pairs. He was runner-up in the Open Singles and third equal in the Open Triples.
The four get on so well on and off the mat and this compatibility is reflected in their results. Well done.
