Trans-Tasman Test.

A record breaking final day at the Morayfield Park Leisure Centre, Caboolture, Queensland as the New Zealand Indoor Bowls Team, the Mat Blacks, defeated Australia 55 points to 11. Australasian medals were won in 10 of the 11 events with only the Mixed Fours going to Australia. The only loss on the final day was the Ladies 8 bowl Pairs when the New Zealand Pair  of Fiona Wilson and Julie Thomas lost 14-20 to the rejigged Australian Pair of Fiona Pearson and Candice Hodgetts.
New Zealand clinched their final three medals when the Men’s Four of Grant l’Ami, John Zittersteijn, Grant Rayner and Gary Low won 16-13 in the morning session giving them victory by 2.5 games to 0.5. In the afternoon the Mixed 6 bowl Pair of Simon Thomas and Maureen Pruden won 22-16 and the Mixed 8 bowl Pair of Blair Spicer and Sheree Holmes won 16-15 in the most exciting game of the day when the Australian skip David Blyth needing to score three on the last end to secure the title missed with a hail-mary shot after Sheree Holmes had secured the head with two superb bowls.
Other features of the day was the Mixed Four of Blair Spicer, Simon Thomas, Julie Thomas and Maureen Pruden winning their game 17-15 and the Ladies Triples of Lois Randall, Linda McCurdy and Gina Owen scoring 10 points on the last three ends to keep their unbeaten record intact with a 27-24 victory.
